For the month of November otherwise known as 'MOVEMBER' buy a mustache on a stick. All proceeds will go to a local charity which helps in the awareness of Men's Health. Still researching which. Looks like I shall have to go over to the health unit and ask some questions.
So remember to support Men's Health Awareness and buy a mustache on a stick. Or you could grow one but I know I would rather not take such drastic measures ;0).

Holly and I have been busy cutting, glueing and making glitter fly. The floors at the store are sparkling.

Three prices ranges are available $2(basic felt mustache on a pencil), $5(felt mustache with glitter one side and the other plain), $10 a much more elaborate creation(either wire or faux fur).

Mustaches will be available at Frayed, Sand 'N' Sea, Starlet Boutique and Coffee Cravings. Pick one up I know you want to.

Work, Work,Work

Holly working on some wings for a collaborative piece she is working on with an artist friend who does work with gourds.
What was laying in front of me. All the pieces for some new coffee sleeves - made from coffee bags, felted wool and vintage buttons. So your coffee can have a cardigan.

We have both been trying to also get ready for our guest artist spots in the Tweed and Area Studio Tour. We will be at the home/studio of Maureen Walton a mural artist in Lonsdale. New clothing and jewelry designs that weekend(Oct 1 &2).

What a great set of legs. Managed to get our hands on three mannequins which need a little TLC.

Which meant we now have some great legs to help with the display of our funky knee hi's in stock. Both Holly and I luv them and they are comfy. Though we are both coveting some other designs so another order may be due soon. Presently we have 10 designs available.

The rest of the mannequins needed a bit more TLC so I guess I shall have to get busy scrubbing and painting soon. But I really like the idea of giving them a new life.

Also for news the Under The Sea Exhibition is up and will be up until the 22nd. So if you are downtown make sure you check out the artwork. It can been seen at Sand N' Sea, Starlet Shoes, Total Aquatics, Napanee Business Centre and of course Frayed Around The Edges. We have 17 different artists participating.

Trash Art Challenge

The submissions are in and I think they are great. As always I would luv more participation but our challenges are starting to become wider known. And hey we are getting things from people I don't know Yeeaahh!

Hope these challenges just keep growing.

The next one is themed Under The Sea - any medium welcome. The deadline for this one is June 30th with them being displayed from July 6 to 22.

After that it is THRIFT STORE TREASURES - Alter or convert a thrift stor find into a piece of artwork which will be treasured in this era. Before pictures would be great also. Deadline August 13th.

Glitter Critters - With or Without?

Not the best picture but thought I should include a picture of some sort. Will have to take some better shots.

So Holly and I have been busy and munchkin too. Munchkin loved assisting with the glitter critter part. A wide range of headbands and fascinators are now available. They include sizes from newborns to adults and a vast array of colours. Did I mention glitter critters there are frogs, lizards, dinosaurs and more. I even made a custom one for myself with a sugar skull and one for Holly with a blue glitter lizard. She may need a dragonfly one also if I can convince her to wear hair accessories more often.

Custom hair accessories are available if you can't find the exact perfect one. Soon to come are an expansion on the crowns available(for boys and girls - all ages).

We have had totes starting to trickle in. Hopefully this has the possibilities of becoming a yearly event. The participants ages thus far range from 5 to approx 50. So it looks like we shall have to have a childs/youth category added. Which is awesome.

So I am busy working on some new clothing. Been working on some other styles of skirts that will work on more variety of body shapes. More variety of lengths also. The other goal I have is to come up with two or three dress designs which are comfortable yet fashionable.

We also have Shiva's Delight body products now. Which includes soaps, bath bombs, massage oils, lip balms and body butter. The soaps are great. It is what we now use at the store and I shall be using it at home as we need some.

Well another February is here. Of course the weather can't decide what it is doing from day to day but that does add excitement to our lives.

January - New Stock

We are now carrying some all natural body products. The main line is Hip Hip Hoorah! made by a personable young lady named Sarah who lives in Kingston. She is extremely eco-conscious, every container returned gives you a $1 off your next purchase. Anything I have sampled has been very nice and I can say as a former aromatherapist she is using very nice combinations of ingredients.

Her products include toothpaste(Mint, Cinnamon,Orange), deodorant(Patchouli, Snadalwood, Sanchouli), Salves(Calendula, Cocoa Velvet, Bruise Buster), and sprays(Tea Tree Lavender, Aloe).

Also we have bath salts made by munchkin and me (Mommy & Me). She really wanted to make something to sell at the store, so I searched the brain cells and decided to create some aromatherpy blends which could be used for soaking. Thus far this is only two Calming Blend, and Lavender Blend.

Holly and I have decided that we are going to take products that are different from the many things we create. But we do have guidelines the first being must be created within a 100 mile radius of Napanee, quality control, and of course we have to like it. This is always going to depend upon space also. I am presently working on an artisian agreement.

Skirts and More

I have been busy making skirts and some other clothing and accessories. The skirts are SO comfortable. Hope to get some more sewn up before the holidays as stock in the basic colours is pretty depleted. In January I plan on starting on some spring and summer designs. Thus far I have one skirt design figured out but I am thinking a dress would be nice also. Am presently trying to come up with some other styles for more variety of body types. It seems so often style and comfort do not go hand in hand.
Hope everyone has a chance to celebrate the holidays with people they treasure and love. Remember to relax and enjoy life.

Holly and I have both been busy trying to get ready for the upcoming holiday season.I am just about getting caught up with the special orders(I think Holly is too) and in order to get any of my personal creations done for my family, no more orders are being taken for a Christmas deadline. It's always hard to make the decision of when to have a cut off date but I think the end of November is reasonable. We have also decided that no more students will be scheduled outside of our normal operating hours until the New Year. I guess this means we are busy. I am sure when January hits we will be wondering what to do with ourselves. ;0)

I have a show in Cobourg tomorrow(21st)Make It Indie, the Mulberry Waldorf school(Kingston) next Saturday(27th), the Fat Goose(Dec 12th)Kingston, Busy Hands(Dec11th&12th)Picton. I know that last one sounds like a double booking I am just calling it an overlap, the Picton one is during the day and the Kingston one is evening. Here's hoping it isn't storming that day. Holly has one more on the 4th of December in Amherstview.

Fibre Cuffs

Finally got busy and got a few more fibre cuffs done. So once again there is a variety of colours available at the store. Hopefully the people who have been looking for them will like the colour choices. Have another batch on the go. Another one of those things I make that are created in stages.

The other good news is we got some new Sublime Stitching patterns in. Hope to have a page on the website soon with a list of ones we have in stock. But do remember we are always happy to get them in for you too.

Halloween

Here's a sample of one of the wire wrapped brooches done by Holly. Presently we have a wide variety of brooches available at the store. Anything from fibre to wire plus lots of thing in between.

Also really discovering that rice is your friend when trying to take decent picture of jewelry. There is just so much more definition to the piece. I am also finding the colours are more accurate.

Tea Anyone?

Munchkin taking a photo op with the Mad Hatter. She was so excited about the store hosting a tea party to coincide with the Mad Hatter's Tea Party Exhibit we are hosting. So of course a picture.

We ended up with 8 participating artists this year. Located at 6 different businesses along the street. Kelly Monk has a sculpture at Sand N' Sea, Paula Brooks has a large caterpillar at Divine Creations. Susan Finan created a real cool tea cozy which is hanging out with the caterpillar. Holly and I both did one complete window here. I did a painting, a fibre piece, a mirror and some felt cakes(aka pincushions). Holly created two wire pieces, a painting and a mirror. Bill VanWart did a painting which is at La Pizzeria. Janet Drew did two painting and Barb Roch did an assemblage piece which are both at Smart Florists. It was a busy day when we were setting up the window displays. But it has been worth it, lots of people have been checking them out. At the end of this week we will have to collect everything and return them to their owners. We are already planning our next one.

Friday Arts & Culture Week

On Friday afternoon we had two guest artists show off their talents. Greg Morris did some carving in the adjacent parking lot. He also brought along some finished works to help catch people's attention, though I honestly think the sound of the chainsaw did that along with the flying wood chips.
We also had a local spinner, Susan Finan come show off her talent. Here she is getting a little help from munchkin. If only she would have stopped making the spinning wheel turn backwards.

Free Demos

In celebration of Arts & Culture Week we are hosting free demos Sept. 24th thru 26th.

So on Friday we have a two guest artists.

Susan Finan will be doing spinning demos at 2:00 and 4:00pm.

Greg Morris will be doing a chainsaw carving demo at 3:00pm.

Both artists will also have some of there work for show & sale.

On Saturday and Sunday it is Holly and I that are doing the demos.

1:00 Needlefelting with Ingrid - I will be demonstrating some of the basics of this technique

2:00 Wireweaving with Holly - Holly will be demonstrating how to do a wire weaved dragonfly

3:00 Crochet(in the round) with Ingrid - I will be showing this basic technique which can then be expanded upon to do such things as make flowers

Sunday are the same demos as Saturday just at different times.

Sweater Skirts

The cooler season is here. So thus I have been working on some appropriate clothing options. Sweater skirts have been the clothing of choice this week. It is fun to recreate a sweater into a skirt and it is not even blatantly obvious that it was once a sweater. Of course now that you know, I am sure you see sweaters when you look at them.

Bookmarks for those hard to buy people, that read of course. Another item that we have added to the store which is unisex and a good price point.

I find they work great as they don't fall out of the book like the business cards I normally use. Though I may need to look for another book as I keep getting asked "How Much?" for my children's storybook.

Stuffies - Perfect for any Age

Some new stuffies have arrived at the store. One of my original designs the Bewildered Bunny in dark blue knit, and some new friends. A monster that has some good days and some bad and a Kurious Kittty. The invasion has started. Most stuffies are $15 but some monsters are available for $10 and up.

Keep your eyes open as I am presently working on some other designs.

Holly has been busy making some new jewelry, the chunky rings have been restocked so we have a good variety of sizes and if we don't have it, remember there is a good chance we could make it.

Tie Again

In my search for some more items that can be considered unisex I got busy and created some luggage tags from ties. They turned out great. Also started were some phone holders and a laptop bag, now just to finish them. Sometimes my focus leaves a bit to be desired. But I am trying to come up with some items that one could buy the guy in their life.

So thus far from ties we have luggage tags, eyeglass holders, cuffs and snakes- everyone needs a snake, don't they?

Painted Finally

They finished painting the front of the building yesterday. They were very meticulous in the process, but the colour choice does leave a bit to be desired. It is too unassuming. So now I am trying to think how to paint the flower box so there is at least a Tad of VaVoom. It is staid looking, very proper seeming aka kinda stuffy. It is very nice to have it completed but it really makes me want to do an outrageous window, will have to think about ideas and options.

More Jackets

I got a couple more little jackets completed. Been trying to always restock the little, little ones as they are the jackets that always catch the customers eye. Because they are just so adorable looking.

For what we are up to otherwise. I think both Holly and I are ready for the Kingston Women's Art Festival on Sunday(Tomorrow). We have both been trying to get a few new things done and we both have our fingers crossed for NO RAIN. I plan on taking the camera so look for some pictures of the event.

Basket O Monsters

It was the last Art In The Park in Napanee for the year and well it rained, and rained. Thus it was a quiet day. Was planning on taking a variety of pictures but since the weather wasn't cooperating here is a basket of Monsters. Been working on some new designs, I am making them out of reclaimed sweaters. Now I need to come up with some new names and bios for two new monsters. It's fun to come with little stories about them, it's the name giving that usually stump me.

Yarn Bombing

Technically No. But I was inspired to put a cozy on the door handle after starting to read the book Yarn Bombing: The Art of Crochet and Knit Graffiti by Mandy Moore.

Now I am looking at things differently again. I don't really need that much encouragement in that department, but now I am wandering around and thinking hhhmmm how could yarn improve the looks of that. So I think a few things might get bombed in downtown Napanee, it could do with some installation Art, already have two willing volunteers to help.

It will be interesting to see what the general communities response will be. So now I am off to plot and plan.

New Stock

Well a box of goodies arrived yesterday. Yarn and fibres from Frabjous which always look so decandent when you open the box. Lots of new recycled silk yarns, silk/wool blend(a new product), beaded felt baubles(which are just fun), colourful silk cocoons and some little felted notion bags. Some of the order is on backorder so I get to look forward to opening another gorgeous box in a week or so

And yes I was a good girl and it all made it out into the store.

Yeah Momentum

I know it is probably a silly thing to be excited about. But we finally have a handrail on the entrance of the store. It will be replaced at a later date with the permanent one, actually there will be one on each side. But work is being done on the exterior again. We also got the final lights installed and there are rumours of painting starting soon.

So perhaps by the end of August the exterior of the building will be done. It's exciting. The colour is still a secret but it sounds like it will be brown with accents. I am reserving judgement until I see the finished project.

Well I finally finished some dog collars. My house still smells of lemongrass and other essential oils. Better then the skunk smell which arrived on Monday night. Why Oh Why do dogs pick disagreements with skunks.

Anyways we now have all natural dog collars good to keep away fleas and mosquitoes. Also available are doggie biscuits, all natural of course(local free range eggs even).

So them along with the toys and catnip pillows for the kitties we got the other children covered. And hey some of our stuffies make great gifts for any of the children in your house be they have two or four legs.

Stitch Away

Sublime Stitching is such a fun company. They have a variety of patterns that they have been designed by artists such as Julie West, Lisa Petrucci, Jim Woodring etc. Then they have ones called Pirates Ahoy, Camp Out, Gnome and Fairies, Sexy Librarians, Darling Daschunds, Unicorn Believers to name just a few more. They are wonderful for beginners or veteran stitchers and we have a selection at $5 each.

I know I have been having fun using them and creating things like ATC's, postcards, towels and pillows.

When You Are On The Go

Utensil Rolls. Something I decided to make after going on a daytrip. It was a perfect day for eating in the local park, so we stopped at the grocery store got some food, and alas no utensils. So now I have one of these in the car. Next time I will be prepared. They are available in a variety of colours and include a knife, spoon and fork.($10) Great for whenever you may need some utensils, especially if you are like me and really dislike the plastic ones.
Coffee Sleeves. ($4.50 ea. or 3 for $12) These are made with commercial coffee bags for the inner lining, cotton quilt batt and 100% cotton fabrics. Fit standard medium and large takeout cups. A wonderful way to personalize your takeout beverages and to do your bit for decreasing waste. All you need to do is get in the habit of carrying it with you.

SleepOver

So the gnomes have arrived for a sleepover. Right now they are residing in the front window having a great time watching people walk by on the sidewalk. I am sure they could tell us all sorts of stories about what happens on the streets when people think nobodies watching. They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their friends the blossom fairies, who hope to arrive by the end of the week.

I am sure the community shall grow for the next while as they tell us what is necessary for them to be happy in the space. I should probably create them some trees as right now they only have a wooden(puzzle) one and a couple of mushrooms. Perhaps a field of flowers would be a nice addition. I shall see what wants to be created this evening and the next few days.

Not a Traditional Pearl Necklace

Waldorf Inspired

SO Holly and I have been inspired this last month. She has been busy sanding and staining an assortment of wood puzzles. That is after she found some totally non-toxic stains.

I have been busy stitching up little wool felt ducks and clothing, then I had to make clotheslines and a duck pond of course. My next project is some little gnomes with felt sleeping bags, and I am going to try my hand at some little mushroom people.

All of this probably won't help the concept that we are just a kids store but we are having fun. It is also because I finally found a supplier for felt wool so now I have an assortment of colors to work with and we have felt squares for sale in the store.

A New Venture

So we bit the bullet and opened a storefront. AND we actually got our sign up today, but of course then it decided to rain. So I shall have to try to take a picture tomorrow. It has been an adventure thus far trying to work with the space. It is so hard to accurately imagine things until you finally see them in place. But we are getting settled.
